TSMC said March revenue came in at 195.2 billion new Taiwan dollars ($6.1 billion), up 34.3% year-on-year — marking the fastest pace of growth since November 2022. The company's first-quarter revenue totaled 592.6 billon new Taiwan dollars, up 16.5% year-on-year. TSMC is the world's largest contract semiconductor manufacturer, which makes chips for companies from Apple to Nvidia .

Last year, Taiwan's chip industry generated T$4.837 trillion ($150.27 billion) in revenue, nearly half of which came from TSMC, compared with Taiwan's GDP of T$22.667 trillion ($704.21 billion). "Taiwan's limited land and limited energy have always created a lot of pressure," GlobalWafers (6488.TWO) CEO Doris Hsu told reporters. NEW YORK, Oct 26 (Reuters) - The founder of the world's biggest chipmaker, Morris Chang, said on Thursday that increasing tensions over technology between the United States and China will slow down the global chip industry. The company has helped the democratically governed island of Taiwan become the world's leading producer of advanced chips. Chang, 92, said that cutting off China's chip industry from the rest of the world would affect other players beyond China. Of course, the immediate purpose is to slow China down, and I think it's doing that," Chang said. Born and raised in China, Chang built a career in the U.S., where he become a naturalized citizen in 1962, before being recruited to build the chip industry in Taiwan.

But construction of TSMC's first Arizona factory, which began in the Phoenix area in 2021, has run into some hiccups. "Replacing Arizona's construction workers with foreign construction workers directly contradicts the very purpose for which the CHIPS Act was enacted – to create jobs for American workers," the petition says. The degree to which American workers can get the job done without additional assistance is up for debate. "It's easily the most unsafe site I've ever walked on," said Luke Kasper, a representative of the sheet metal workers union.

☆ Chipmaker TSMC says supplier targeted in cyberattack

June 30 (Reuters) - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (2330.TW) said on Friday that a cybersecurity incident involving one of its IT hardware suppliers has led to the leak of the vendor's company data. "TSMC has recently been aware that one of our IT hardware suppliers experienced a cybersecurity incident which led to the leak of information pertinent to server initial setup and configuration," the company said. TMSC confirmed in a statement to Reuters that its business operations or customer information were not affected following the cybersecurity incident at its supplier Kinmax. The TSMC vendor breach is part of a larger trend of significant security incidents affecting various companies and government entities. TSMC said it has cut off data exchange with the affected supplier following the incident.
